Footage From the Dalai Lama’s 1991 Visit to Buryatia, Aginski, and Kalmykia

In 1991, as the Soviet Union was unravelling, the Dalai Lama made a historic visit to the Russian Buddhist republics of Buryatia, Aginski and Kalmykia. With the financial support of Francesca von Habsburg, we documented his travels, shooting on Hi-8. The majority of this footage has now been digitised with the support of Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary.
